Policies
Privacy, delivery and returns — kept plainly, as a correspondence should be.
Privacy
The Accidental Exile is operated as a private literary imprint. We are the data controller for the personal information described here, and we collect only what is needed to send what you have asked for and to fulfil your orders.
What we collect
Your name and email; a delivery address for physical orders; the contents of messages you send us; and, for the Amber Room, your email and your confirmations of age, eligibility and country. Payments are handled by our payment provider — we never see or store full card details.
How we use it
To fulfil orders and deliver downloads or physical items; to send the catalogue or correspondence you have specifically requested; to confirm age and eligibility where adult material is involved; to answer enquiries; and to keep the site secure.
The newsletter
Our public newsletter runs through Substack, which holds that subscriber list under its own terms. The Amber Room list is never held on Substack — it is kept privately, by hand.
Sharing & your rights
We share data only with the services that make the imprint run — store, payment, delivery and, for physical orders, couriers and printers. We never sell your data. You may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, and may withdraw consent at any time, by writing to [email protected].
Delivery
Digital works
Digital works are delivered electronically — there is nothing to ship. After payment, a download link appears on the confirmation page and is sent to the email you used at checkout. You receive a PDF that opens on any device, and an EPUB where offered for Kindle and other e-readers.
Reading on a Kindle
Kindles don’t download from other sites directly, but Amazon’s free “Send to Kindle” makes it simple: download the EPUB, then add it at amazon.com/sendtokindle or by email to your @kindle.com address. A PDF can be read the same way, though an EPUB reflows more comfortably.
Printed editions & prints
Delivery of limited-edition printed books and fine art prints may take up to 28 days due to their unique nature. Each is prepared, signed and sent by hand. If a download link expires or won’t open, write to [email protected] and we will reissue it.
Shipping & Returns
Digital products
Because digital files are delivered immediately, by completing your purchase and beginning the download you agree to immediate delivery and acknowledge that the usual 14-day right to cancel no longer applies once a download has begun. If a file is faulty, corrupted, incomplete or not as described, contact us within 14 days and we will repair, replace or refund it. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Physical products
Orders are prepared within a few working days; limited-edition and signed pieces may take longer, with any lead time shown on the product. Costs and estimated delivery times are shown at checkout. Import duties or taxes on international orders are the customer’s responsibility.
Returns
You may cancel and return an unused physical item in its original condition within 14 days of delivery for a refund — write to us first for the return address. Made-to-order and limited editions (e.g. signed giclée prints) are non-returnable except where faulty, as allowed for bespoke goods; this is made clear on the product page.
The Amber Room
The Amber Room catalogue is sent by private correspondence on request, not sold here, so the points above do not apply to it. You may ask to be removed from the list at any time.
